Wednesday Club Paddle

Join us for our Wednesday Club Paddle adventure! We set off from Burnham Sailing Club (BSC) every Wednesday throughout the season, which runs from April to October. Our meet-up time is 17:30 sharp, with a goal to hit the water by 18:00. You'll find the Crouch Kayak Club conveniently situated at the entrance of the BSC compound.

These organised paddles are exclusively for members and invited guests. If you're curious about joining our group, Wednesday evenings offer a perfect chance to drop by, observe our activities, and have a friendly chat. Feel free to reach out to us for details on our next session, or consult the club calendar for upcoming events.

Each individual is allowed a maximum of three training sessions before they're required to become a paid Cub member.  A small charge is made for the hire of club equipment of £7 during each session.

The clubhouse amenities include changing rooms, showers, and a selection of hot food and beverages available during the season. Parking is conveniently located within the club grounds.

Please note that due to unpredictable weather conditions, there may be occasions when we have to cancel the event. Rest assured, we'll make every effort to keep you informed in such cases.

Club Events & Trips

Throughout the year, we strive to arrange an array of trips, events, and training courses beyond the confines of the River Crouch, catering to both club members and guests. Our offerings span leisurely excursions along tranquil river canals in Canadian canoes to navigating the challenges of rough waters via sea kayaking, where skills and techniques are put to the test. Additionally, we provide a variety of training sessions aimed at enhancing proficiency.

These diverse events are orchestrated by club members and committee officers, and we actively encourage everyone to contribute ideas, not only regarding trips but also anything that enhances the operation or enriches the experience for our club members.

One highlight not to be missed is the CKC Annual Summer Camping event—an immersive weekend of paddling, open fires, and lighthearted camaraderie that promises unforgettable memories.

Some of the rivers & canals we paddle:

Anglesey / Burnham to Bradwell

Bradwell to Mayland/ Bridgemarsh Island / Beeleigh Weir / River Cam, Cambridge

Fambridge to Battlesbridge / Bures to Nayland / Maldon Loop Heybridge / Osea Island

Papermill Lock / River Roach / Red Sands Forts / St. Osyth Wallasea Island / West Mersea

River Wye / River Waveney / River Yare

Pool Sessions

Throughout the year, we offer pool training sessions designed to help you hone your skills and techniques in a safe and warm environment. Be sure to consult the club calendar for upcoming dates.

Our pool sessions provide an excellent opportunity to practice various techniques with the support of qualified members available to offer guidance. Each session will focus on specific training objectives, which could include self-rescue, rolling techniques, or mastering Canadian canoe steering—whether solo or tandem.

The training curriculum is tailored to accommodate the interests and needs of our members.

Please note that there is a small fee associated with these sessions, which helps cover the costs of pool rental and boat hire. Join us for an enriching experience and take your paddling skills to the next level!  Booking Required

Training Courses

We offer a variety of structured training courses aimed at enhancing your paddling skills and guiding you toward instructor-level proficiency, certified by British Canoeing (BC). These courses are conducted both in the pool and on the river, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

In addition to paddle skills improvement, we conduct practical classes tailored specifically for sea kayakers. These sessions cover crucial aspects of sea safety, including Marine Radio operation, Navigation techniques, and First Aid procedures. Please note that these courses require a minimum number of participants to proceed. While the club covers some of the associated costs, fees for BC course registration or certification will be the responsibility of individuals.

Scheduled courses will be posted on the club calendar as dates become available. If you're interested in participating in any of the courses or if you're a qualified trainer in a subject that might interest the club, please don't hesitate to contact the club secretary. They will gladly discuss the details with you.
